IL PRIMO GRANDE DISCO DI LUMIERO

The first great record by Lumiero thrilled us from the very first listen: a fusion of past and future in which a young Baronetto di Barona boldly reshapes the great singers of the past with a fresh, youthful personality, tailored and elegant, awkward and endearing. Lumiero moves with dance steps that seem unintentional, yet every step is as precise as an astronaut strolling on the moon, calibrating himself with an unreachable talent and an unforgettable voice.

We immediately began our research, which in truth lasted exactly one hour, everything was already there, as if we had in fact written it in the past. We quickly decided to start with a strong teaser, written by Lumiero, with the idea shared with the label Marengo of keeping the photograph we took ourselves as the core focus of the project: a single repeated image, not many different ones, as a tribute to Gainsbourg and to a world in which cigarettes still reigned supreme.

TEASER ALBUM

Ideas first poured onto paper, as always, through drawings illustrated below, then were consolidated during an excellent dinner in Milano at Piero e Pia’s. At the restaurant we ate fried frogs; Lumiero, being celiac, couldn’t eat many things, but he smiles and shakes my hand. I immediately ask a question I don’t remember; I do remember the answer from a young man proud of Italy’s positive sides and its romantic soul. It’s no coincidence that Lumiero is also an Urbanista: he works with the city, and at night, like Batman, he saves the world from terrible music.

The album is skillfully produced by Marquis, accustomed to writing film scores, who gave us bread to mop up the sauce, or perhaps the sauce to imagine this new creative world.
That said, let’s move on to the next chapter.

NON SONO TUA

With Lumiero, I still remember that while we were taking these photos we discovered that the car door was open, but this time our courage was in not getting in. We chose not to be reckless or rebellious, but brave in a more adult way. This first shot really excites us: mocking baronets, yet polite to the core. This is the last video we shot. That once semi-shy Lumiero now adjusts his glasses and says, “No problem, I’ll go out into the street and sing at the top of my lungs like a madman, perfect.” We look at each other and say, ''bellali''.

Zoom lens from above Marquis terrace, and having also received the even higher blessing of the Lord, and I mean Loris Giroletti, the manager, and new dear friend, we proceed. Five takes in a row, zoom in and zoom out, impossible to choose, as they are long takes with no cuts. Now and then, ladies glare at him, people gesture, a street sweeper carries things away.
Did you notice that the trucks practically move in time by the end? White vans, while Lumiero sings his heart out beneath Giulietta’s balcony, the world seems to remind him that it’s beautiful this way, that it follows its own rhythm, even if love, in this case, is not returned.

CORTEGGIAMENTO LENTO

“Lumiero, you will be a pigeon, in love with a cannibal canary in an iron cage. You try to seduce her and she looks at you lovingly, but she will only want to eat you, okay?”
Lumiero simply smiled, we were already in agreement.
We found the canary: Livia Valenti, a writer and, in this case, a small yellow dancing bird. A marriage of feathers and friendship, a beautiful and playful set. Not taking yourself seriously is a very serious game.

Mattia and I sat comfortably and worked extensively on the acting, with a simple background and exaggerated gestures, mirrored by us as we demonstrated how to do it, though I look more like a crooked crow, and he looks like a wise falcon.
Due to the unfortunate rules of the market, the music video is in 9:16 go figure, but what can we do? The future points upward, like the buildings of Milano, but Lumiero explodes radially, claiming sky and earth with the song of a nightingale.

LA TUA AMICA PIU' CARA

This was the first true video of the project, the moment we understood that Lumiero has charisma to spare. Like a young Yves Saint Laurent, Lumiero moves deftly, wielding a cigarette like an elegant sword. There are no playing cards, or maybe there are, there lying beneath us, suspended between Bohemian seduction and a Bond villain. Lumiero smiles mockingly, immortal.

At first, I would have liked to use a small Lumiero marionette for the video, but it’s never too late...next time maybe?

UN LETTO PER TRE

We absolutely fell in love with this track: every pair relates to a third lover who unites them, Lumiero and Marquis through music, Mattia and I through cinema; often we are interchangeable lovers. One of the catchiest tracks, without a doubt.
Lumiero reads the Tantra, though I don’t remember who brought it—maybe no one could find the Kamasutra.

Lumiero lying against the wall came to us as an idea at some point. I don’t know when; maybe we needed a nap, but as good Milanese workaholics, we do it standing up. Like horses, like Marengo, Vasta also moves horizontally while sleeping, working vertically at the same time. True Scuderie Milanesi.
